It is with great pleasure that I write to you on behalf of Mr. Jim Lundgren, whom I have had the privilege of working with for the past 3 academic years. As the AVID Coordinator, I function as an in-class college counselor for our underrepresented students, but my knowledge base only goes so far. Advancement via Individual Determination (AVID) is a program designed to assist first generation college students, students historically least served in higher education, low income students, students whose parents were educated abroad, or students in the middle who are on the path to college eligibility and college readiness.
Mr. Lundgren reached out to the program, willing to share his expertise in the college selection process and even more significant the financial aid process. For the past 3 years, I have been so appreciative of all of Mr. Lundgren’s efforts to help our students understand the game of college admissions and how to better market themselves as potential candidates. He is particularly knowledgeable in working with student athletes who will be playing in college as well. He is a member of a number of educational organizations, attends all of the college counseling conferences, and has visited a number of universities over the years, making him a very knowledgeable person in the most up to date information available about college admissions, what the universities are looking for, and the trends in admissions over a number of years.
Mr. Lundgren is well-organized in his presentations and well as in supplying materials in advance. He speaks to students in ways they can better understand the process, and we are particularly appreciative of his bilingual skills in Spanish and his willingness to reach out to our parent community. He visits our classroom during all of the significant times of importance in the college admissions process—from creating college lists to assisting with college applications to demonstrating the importance of appeal letters to financial aid officers. He is integral to the entire process, and students feel comfortable calling or emailing him with additional questions, especially regarding residency and financial aid, which are both very confidential matters. As a result of his genuine care and concern for students—as a college consultant and as a father—students and their parents over the years have reached out to Mr. Lundgren for additional one-on-one counseling. He makes himself available, approachable, and engaged in all parts of a student’s process to reach the college of his/her dreams. At times, he even becomes a motivational speaker, and students respond to his own life story and his sincerity.
I have appreciated Mr. Lundgren’s professionalism and more importantly, his willingness to “sit in the trenches,” so to speak, and work alongside students at their level in the computer lab, problem-solving in real time when it matters most. I highly recommend Mr. Jim Lundgren for a position in your district as I know his professionalism, vast knowledge base, and genuine concern for students during a very important time in their lives will be assets to your Counseling Department and student/parent community.

As the College and Career Pathways Manager of Los Angeles Education Partnership, I happily write to you in support of Mr. Jim Lundgren. LAEP, as a 501(c)3 non-profit that serves 14,500 students and their families across 18 LAUSD high schools, has relied on Mr. Lundgren’s expertise, professionalism and deep passion for supporting youth and their families to bring vital financial aid guidance to our campuses.
All of LAEP’s Partner Schools are in low-income neighborhoods where 90+% of students receive free or reduced-price lunch and the vast majority are the first in their family to attend college. None of our partner schools have dedicated college counselors with the training needed to truly provide students with the support they need to navigate a path to college. In an effort to mitigate this, LAEP’s College and Career Pathways Program works with teams of teachers to develop college-and-career focused curriculum, hosts teacher and staff trainings on college access topics and leverages the collective strength of partners and volunteers to ensure all students have access to the resources they need to be successful after high school.
Mr. Lundgren has been of vital importance to our work. LAEP has relied on him for everything from hosting our annual teacher trainings on the FAFSA, Dream Act and evaluating award letters to visiting all of our partner school sites to lead 3-hour marathon FAFSA completion events. His dedication to ensuring every last student has the support they need goes beyond the little time he gets to meet with them- even allowing students to text and email him with questions.
When counselors, teachers and partners ask for Mr. Lundgren year after year, it’s clear that he is a rare find in the field of college access. You can be certain that he will serve to the absolute best of his ability!
Do not hesitate to reach out for more information!
All the best,
College and Career Pathways Manager

Jim Lundgren of College Funding Solutions asked me to contact you as a reference with respect to their services. I attended an information seminar at Torrey Pines High School last September and have been working with Jim and Sohail ever since. Their knowledge of the financial aid process and the guidance and assistance they have provided over the past ten months has been invaluable. You are welcome to contact me by telephone or e-mail with any questions or just to discuss our experience.

I am happy to give you a very positive endorsement of College Funding Solutions. We have worked with them for the past year and have been extremely pleased with their expertise, professionalism, availability and knowledge.
Prior to working with CFS, my wife and I had attended a few seminars on the "college" process. We were left confused and questioning if we should just go it alone.
I attended one more seminar, put on by Jim Lundgren and Sohail Taqui of CFS. After their seminar, I realized that we did need professional assistance with this major financial matter, and I felt we could trust CFS to provide that assistance.
After a year of hard work, soul searching, and number crunching, I am pleased to say that we just returned from our son's freshman orientation at Santa Clara University. We couldn't be happier with his choice. It was a very busy and challenging year, and thanks to CFS, we had confidence that we were doing everything possible to reach an outcome we would be happy with. I can't imagine going through the process alone or with the assistance of a company we didn't trust and call on with so many questions.
Please feel free to contact me if you would like to discuss things further.

It’s my great pleasure to write this letter of reference on behalf of Jim Lundgren, the brains (and heart) behind College Access.
Jim first came to me as recommended by folks at the Los Angeles Educational Partnership (LAEP) and he worked with a cadre of twelfth graders in our small school at Roosevelt High School. I was blown away by Jim’s expertise, his patience, and the guidance he provided to both students and their parents in both English and Spanish. I know for a fact that, thanks to his work, a large number of students were able to navigate the world of financial aid and receive maximum return on their applications, thus allowing a smooth and economically viable transition to college.
Three years ago when I took over leadership at the Academy of Environmental & Social Policy, Jim was among the first calls I made as I considered what partnerships would yield the most for our students.
ESP is a small school that has catered to students who didn’t find success at their larger “home” school and needed a different model. Although we’re a “traditional” school we have a different approach and so it was important for Jim to be flexible and willing to work with our diverse community. He’s met those needs and so many more!
Jim has become a key part of our school’s community, working not only with our twelfth graders and their families but also with underclassmen to lay the all important groundwork for developing a college-going mindset. As a Title One school with students who meet the California State University EOP definition of “historically disadvantaged”, Mr. Lundgren has been able to level the playing field and provide the kind of accurate, timely and accessible information that allows students to make informed and appropriate decisions about their post-secondary careers.
His work with parents has been vital as he’s helped families see just how realistic the financing of their children’s education is, even when they’ve had no personal experience with that sort of financial planning and navigation.
We’ve included Mr. Lundgren’s work in our 7th period College & Career class and students and families all agree that he’s made a major impact on their lives and on our school’s success.
Please don’t hesitate to contact me should you wish to discuss further. When our School Site Council (SSC) and leadership teams were asked to fund Mr. Lundgren’s program the votes were unanimous to continue our relationship and I feel proud that our school can offer such a high level of support for such a reasonable investment.
